In the years 2005-2006, the Bureau of the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection realised the project called „Platform of electronic communication with the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (E-GIODO)”. The aim of the project was giving the citizens a possibility to consult a publicly available personal data filing systems register kept by the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO) and providing tools assisting in filling in applications for registration of personal data filing systems and sending them electronically. The project was realised within the activity 1.5 of the Sectoral Operational Programme Improvement of the Competitiveness of Enterprises (SOP-ICE). The work on development and implementation of the E-GIODO project was initiated in the beginning of 2004, when the Sectoral Operational Programme for the Improvement of the Competitiveness of Enterprises was launched. One of the goals of that programme was supporting initiatives related to providing online services for entrepreneurs. Its beneficiaries could be institutions and authorities, which would facilitate entrepreneurs the fulfilment of their tasks, through provision of online services. The E-GIODO project fully considered the aims of the mentioned SOP-ICE programme and received approval for financing under no. WKP 1/1.5.0/1/2004/6/6/16 in the middle of 2005.
The project implementation works were held between 7 December 2005 and 6 June 2006. During the subsequent month, internal training courses and preparations for the official launch of the project, which took place on 7 July 2006, were carried on.
Currently, both citizens and data controllers show great interest in the results of the project. Many citizens having access to the Internet use the possibility to check the filing systems registered by the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, which does not require sending correspondence or visiting the seat of the Bureau of the Inspector General. Whereas, many data controllers use the module assisting in completion of registration applications and filing system’s update. The statistics from the recent several months show that almost 30 – 35 thousand users make use of the function ‘consult E-GIODO register’ monthly. The assisting module, in turn, is used on average by 500 – 800 data controllers monthly. The module enabling online application sending to GIODO, requiring secure electronic signature verified by qualified certificate, is the least often used. The latter function is still used by only a few or a dozen or so data controllers monthly.
